Failure

Post Secondary is going to throw some challenges your way. Keep in mind that failure is not a bad thing, it is a teachable moment in your life, and you learn from that. No one is perfect at everything they do the first time, and failure helps you learn and grow. This is a chance to learn about yourself, what works for you and what does not.

So you failed Math and Physics your first semester, maybe Engineering is not for you! That does not mean you quit and are a failure, you learn from that experience. Once you realize you won't be an engineer, you think you might really like learning about history and geography, how about trying a History degree?
(Real experience from someone who is now a High School Teacher who was going to be an Architect after High School.)

As Aaliyah once said, "Dust yourself off and try again. Dust yourself off and try again, try again."

Goal Setting

Visualize Your Goals

A vision board can be a great tool to see your SMART goals daily and remind yourself what you want to achieve. This does not mean you put it on your wall and think happy thoughts for it to happen, that will not work. What it does mean is you have a reminder of your goal, and the steps (SMART goal actionable steps) to achieve that goal.

It does not have to be anything fancy, it can be as simple as glue, scissors, magazines and poster board. Seeing your goals in a visual way can help remind you of your goals.

This can also be a great thing to do with roommates to bond and help each other succeed.

Goal Setting

SMART Goals

It is important to create goals in your life, whether they are long term or short term, financially related or personal development, writing down those goals and the steps to ultimately achieving them will help you be more successful in reaching your goals.
SMART is an acronym for:
Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

Measurable (meaningful, motivating).

Achievable (agreed, attainable).

Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive)

It is just one way to define and organize your goals. To help you along the following article contains worksheets and step by step instructions on how to set up your goals for success.
